The Founders Fund seeks to provide a unique professional development and educational opportunity for highly motivated individuals. The entirely student managed fund provides members the opportunity to explore value investing and understand the complexities of portfolio management. Students involved in the The Founders Fund gain experience from the application of portfolio optimization, financial modeling, and fundamental research. In addition, The Founders Fund's strong internal and external network allows members to break into and excel in challenging, interesting, and rewarding careers in the financial services industry. All of this is achieved while managing an active portfolio.
The Founders Fund is spearheaded by a hand-picked executive board including a Portfolio Manager, Chairman, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Investment Officer, and Chief Risk Officer who oversee the Associates, Analysts and Consulting Analysts of nine industry sectors. Every position within the fund is attainable by members and assigned by merit.
Makayla is a junior at the University of Florida, pursuing her Bachelor and Master of Science in Finance through UF’s MSF combined-degree program. She joined The Founders Fund during her freshman spring as a Consulting Analyst in 2019. Throughout her time in the fund, Makayla has acted as an Analyst, Associate, and Vice President while rotating through the TMT, financials, and consumer sectors. Makayla currently serves as the Fund’s Portfolio Manager.
This past summer, Makayla participated in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s inaugural Sophomore Career Exploration Internship program. During her time at the NY Fed, she rotated through the Markets, Research, and Supervision groups. Later this year, Makayla is excited to be working as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst, specializing in Mergers & Acquisitions, at Evercore in New York, NY.
Chris is a junior at the University of Florida studying Economics and Geology. He joined the Founders Fund in Spring of 2020. Outside the fund, Chris works as an analyst for a Miami-based investment firm, focusing on their high-conviction equity strategy. Chris also devotes a lot of time to community service and is heavily involved with the Gator Junior Golf Association, a Gainesville non-profit focused on youth development through the game of golf.
Over the past few years, Chris has held internships across the hedge fund and private equity space, learning to invest across the capital structure in both public and private markets. In his sophomore summer, he interned with Adams Street Partners, a global private equity firm. During his time there, Chris was exposed to strategies including venture capital, traditional buyout, private credit, and distressed debt. This upcoming summer, Chris will be joining Lazard’s investment banking team in New York City gaining exposure to mergers & acquisitions and restructuring advisory.
Chief Investment Officer
Sam is a junior at the University of Florida, pursuing his Bachelor and Master of Science in Finance through UF’s MSF combined-degree program. Sam joined The Founders Fund in Fall of 2019 as a Consulting Analyst. Sam has since acted as an Analyst and Associate while rotating through the Energy, Technology, and Real Estate sectors. Outside of the fund, Sam serves on the executive board of the UF Club Golf Team and was a council member of the Freshman Leadership Council (FLC).
During his freshman summer, Sam studied abroad and interned in London, England. He served as an Investment Intern for Rockstar Group, a private investment group focused on helping entrepreneurs grow their business. Throughout the summer, Sam was exposed to various acquisition strategies and worked to develop investment decks for new startup acquisitions. This upcoming summer, Sam will be working as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at Truist Securities in Atlanta, GA.
Chief Operating Officer
Nick is a senior at the University of Florida majoring in Finance with a minor in Real Estate. He joined the Founders Fund in the Fall of 2018 and after being a sector analyst (Technology and Industrials Sectors) for two semesters and associate (Healthcare), he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Outside of the Founders Fund, Nick is involved in diversity-based programs such as Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) and Sponsors for Educational Opportunities (SEO) which are designed to prepare high-achieving minorities for careers in Investment Banking. Additionally, he is an active member of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma, and was a member of the Florida Leadership Academy (FLA) Class XV and mentor in the Business Undergraduate Mentorship Program (BUMP).
During his freshman summer, Nick worked in both Orlando, FL and Springfield, MO for Foster Senior Living, a third-party management firm and co-developer of assisted living and memory care facilities throughout the country. As a financial analyst, he was responsible for performing quantitative analysis on future developments and assessing potential acquisitions and management agreements. Last summer, he interned for Allgen Financial, a wealth management and financial advisory firm based in Orlando as an investment analyst, conducting equity research on current and potential investment decisions. In Summer 2020, Nick completed a 10-week internship with RBC Capital Markets as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst in New York City, and he will be returning to RBC full-time upon graduation.
Kyler is a senior at the University of Florida in the combined Master of Science in Finance (MSF) degree program. Kyler joined the Founders Fund in Spring of 2018 as a Consulting Analyst. He then worked his way up from Consulting Analyst to Analyst, Analyst to Associate, and then to Chief Risk Officer. Kyler has experience in several sectors, including healthcare, energy, financials, and technology. Outside of the Founders Fund, Kyler serves as the treasurer of the UF Hockey team and is a member of the Student Finance Club.
During his sophomore summer, Kyler completed an internship with Toyota North America as an Accounting Intern, performing internal audits and sales analysis. This past summer, Kyler completed a 10-week internship program with Citigroup as a Sales and Trading Analyst in New York City, and he will be returning to Citigroup full-time upon graduation.
Chief Risk Officer
Austin is a junior at the University of Florida, pursuing his Bachelor and Master of Science in Finance through UF’s MSF combined-degree program. Austin joined The Founders Fund in Fall of 2019 as a Consulting Analyst. Austin has since acted as an Analyst and Associate while rotating through the Media & Telecom, Industrials, and Consumers sectors.
This past summer, Austin worked as a Summer Analyst for Lightning Partners, an investment bank specializing in sell-side M&A of software as a service tech companies. This upcoming summer, Austin will be working as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at Stephens in Atlanta, GA in a generalist role spanning Industrials and Specialty Finance.
